About Priti Sahni
Priti Sahni is an Indian fashion designer and founder of the Priti Sahni label, launched in 2011. A graduate of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, she specializes in hand-painted and hand-embroidered bridal, festive and occasion wear — including lehengas, sarees, anarkalis and Indo-western silhouettes — crafted with traditional Indian artisanal techniques (zardozi, mirrorwork, hand-painting). The label ships worldwide, with clients across India, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Priti Sahni Designs are based in Mumbai, with a focus on slow fashion and made-to-measure craftsmanship.
The Journey
Priti Sahni’s path to fashion was not a conventional one. A state rank holder, she studied computer engineering at Mumbai University and spent three years working as an analyst with a private sector bank. In early 2007, she left her corporate career to pursue a childhood passion for drawing, painting and design — going on to complete a postgraduate program in Apparel Design at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, one of just fifteen students selected for the program that year.
After NID, she worked briefly as a designer with a few well-known department store chains before launching her own label in 2011 — built around a vision of celebrating Indian craft and culture, and creating a community of women who value hand craftsmanship, fine detailing and comfort.
Design Philosophy
The Priti Sahni woman is a modern Indian woman, proud of her roots, environmentally conscious and drawn to pieces that carry the mark of the human hand. Every outfit is created using traditional Indian techniques — hand-painting, hand-embroidery of zardozi, gota and mirror work — produced by skilled artisans and designed to be made-to-measure rather than mass-produced. Many clients, particularly NRI brides, work with the atelier remotely through consultations and virtual fittings before their wedding.
